The order from Abellio East Anglia Ltd. is worth over GBP 600 million (CHF 746 million), writes Stadler in a statement. The 58 trains that make up the order comprise 378 vehicles with a combination of 20 Intercity Electric Multiple Units and 38 Regional Bi-Mode Multiple Units, which can run under electric or diesel power. The order includes maintenance and servicing of the new trains.
Abellio will run the trains on routes between London and Norwich, from Liverpool to Stasted, and on other routes in East Anglia. Until now, Stadler has won orders for the supply of locomotives, trams, tram-trains and metro trains in the UK. The Abellio order is the first, however, for long-distance trains.
“I am delighted that Stadler has been chosen by Abellio East Anglia for the supply of these new trains in the prestigious UK rolling stock market. All the trains we will be delivering are derived from the latest generation of the best-selling FLIRT family,“ said the executive vice president of Stadler, Peter Jenelten.
The FLIRT trains will be equipped with air-conditioning, wi-fi and power points throughout the train, and passenger information systems with real-time information.
