The british-chinese bank HSBC asked nearly 27,000 expats from 190 countries how easy it was for them to live, work, and raise a family where they were. Switzerland came out as the fifth most popular country overall. It improved by five places compared to last year, mainly thanks to better rankings for lifestyle and experiences. Singapore leads the ranking for the second year running, ahead of New Zealand, Canada, and the Czech Republic.

Switzerland remains the top destination when it comes to financial wellbeing and confidence in the local economy. It topped the sub-category for personal finances, including earning prospects, level of disposable income and savings. According to the report, more than 80% of expats living in Switzerland feel confident about the political stability and economy of the country.

There were other benefits to living in Switzerland, with the majority of the survey's participants reporting that they had become more physically active. With its mountain air and ease of access to outdoor activities, Switzerland ranked ninth overall in lifestyle. However, Switzerland ranked lower when judged on relationships and social experiences. Only 35 % of the expatriates interviewed said it was easy to make friends in the country.
