maxon motor builds an Innovation Center

While drive specialist maxon motor in canton Obwalden already has more than thirty sales companies and six production locations worldwide, the company’s backbone is its Obwalden headquarters with over 1,200 employees. In future, the focus here will increasingly be on research & development, medical technology (micromotors), holistic drive systems (mechatronics) and industry 4.0 (production networking). Maxon invests about 30 millions in the new Center. The Medical department will now have twice its current space. maxon’s micromotors (some of which are four millimetres thick) will be produced over a surface area of 2,000 square metres. These motors are used in insulin pumps, medication delivery systems or surgical robots. To meet the medical field’s most stringent quality requirements, the production facility will be equipped with clean rooms. One of these is even biocompatible.
