Last week, Stadler presented the new sleeping cars that it developed for Azerbaijan Railways (ADY). According to a statement, the order also includes three dining cars as well as an option for 70 more units.

ADY plans to use the cars produced by the St.GallenBodenseeArea railway manufacturer on the international Baku-Tiflis-Kars-Istanbul line. To this end, Stadler designed the sleeping cars with adjustable wheelsets that are compatible with other variable gauge systems in different countries. The sleeping cars are able to operate on European standard gauge as well as the broad gauge used in CIS states.

Conquering new markets is a core strategy for Stadler in a bid to keep its workforce employed, especially since the euro crisis swept away the traditional Western European market since 2010, explains Stadler. The partnership with ADY has been strengthened in recent years. For instance, Stadler was awarded a second contract for five double-decker vehicles.
