Swiss data centers: the key points at a glance

Companies are confronted with even greater volumes of data as a result of new business models and technologies that must be saved in a secure and timely manner. Switzerland recognized this development at an early stage and made the storage of sensitive data a priority. Around 200 to 400 million francs are invested in the construction of new data centers each year to ensure Switzerland’s leading position with regards to data storage and IT security. According to a survey conducted by Broadgroup/IWSB, Switzerland ranks second out of ten European countries with the largest data centers, measured by gross surface area per 1,000 inhabitants. Switzerland is therefore ahead of the Netherlands, Norway, and Great Britain - only Ireland has a larger surface area dedicated to data centers per 1,000 inhabitants.

The high standards in data protection and the political and economic stability in Switzerland represent the ideal conditions for putting the country in a leading position in terms of data centers. A further aspect is the excellent server infrastructure, which ensures the outstanding availability of data centers. Fast internet connections, a stable and low-cost power supply and well-trained information and communication technology specialists (ICT) also contribute to the high quality of data centers in Switzerland.
