Polish railways in a nutshell

Poland is implementing the largest railway development program in decades. It is mainly financed from the €17 bn-worth National Railway Program and consists of roughly 230 projects including the refurbishment of 9 000 km of rails. This creates vast potential for investments in rail infrastructure, innovations and technologies, opening up new opportunities for Swiss companies. These encompass the development of intermodal transportation, new high-speed connections between agglomerations & logistic hubs, the introduction of autonomous vehicles & smart grid solutions, and use of batteries & hydrogen. In addition, Poland perceives its rail investments as a tool for cutting transport’s carbon footprint.

The future expansion of Poland’s railway sector depends largely on the CPK mega-airport project. This “Solidarity” transport hub is the top long-term infrastructural investment in Poland integrating air, motorway and railway components. The CPK is set to replace Warsaw Chopin Airport and serve as the main transport hub for the country and regionally (with up to 45 m passengers annually).
