Switzerland’s Trust Valley : leading the way in international digital governance

The cantons of Vaud and Geneva are joining forces to launch the Trust Valley, a public-private partnership aimed at promoting excellence in the areas of digital trust and cybersecurity in the Lake Geneva region.

Lake Geneva Region
Western Switzerland is ideally positioned to pave the way for "digital trust" at the international level.

The Covid-19 pandemic has accelerated the digital transition of the economy and highlighted its reliance on critical digital infrastructures and services. In this context, the cantons of Vaud and Geneva are working to set up the Trust Valley, a joint economic promotion initiative, a platform for resilience and innovation entirely dedicated to the field of digital trust and cybersecurity aiming to position the Lake Geneva region as an agile, innovative and high-performance player at the service of digital transformation.

Initiated and supported by the cantons of Vaud and Geneva and numerous institutions and companies from both cantons, the Trust Valley relies on more than 500 experts who constitute the largest concentration of talent in the field available in Switzerland. This initiative will allow for collaboration and synergies between universities and research institutes by drawing on their international recognition and strong complementarity.

Over 300 companies and organizations involved in cybersecurity

The background to this initiative is also closely linked to the important developments under way in the region : the creation of the Cyberpeace Institute, the Swiss Digital Initiative, the momentum generated by the Geneva Digital Talks in Geneva, the launch by SICPA of an innovation campus dedicated to the trust economy, the deployment of the digital strategy aimed at making the canton of Vaud a "data land", as well as the implementation, at the level of the Swiss Confederation, of the National Strategy for Protection against Cyberrisks (SNPC).

Thanks to its tradition of neutrality and its know-how recognized by numerous international institutions, Western Switzerland is ideally positioned to pave the way for "digital trust" at the international level.

Supported by the cantons of Geneva and Vaud through a mandate entrusted to the EPFL Innovation Park Foundation, the Trust Valley will be officially launched in October 2020.
