The new five-storey building will have 8,000 storage spaces and a storage hall for 105 vehicles. Monday’s groundbreaking ceremony was attended by renowned guests from politics and business, including the president of the cantonal government, Niklaus Bleiker, who called the start of construction “an important sign for the location as a centre of economic importance as well as the labour market of the canton of Obwalden”.

Leister Technology AG plans to merge its production of plastic welding equipment, process heat modules and plastic welding laser system at its site in Sarnen, and the company is investing 25 million Swiss francs into the project. The new building complex is scheduled to go into operation in spring 2019. Internet cameras allow website visitors to follow the progress of the construction work.

The company is confident that the construction schedule can be adhered to.

“It took us just 14 months from the decision of the company’s management to receipt of the building permit, which is an exceptionally fast deadline for a demanding construction project of this size,” said CEO Christiane Leister.
