HSG again tops European ranking

The University of St.Gallen (HSG) is once again the highest ranked public business university in Europe and the fourth highest overall in the latest European Business School Ranking from the Financial Times, which analyses 95 business universities across Europe.

The Financial Times assessed four different categories to compile this year’s European Business School Ranking. In the Master’s programmes in management category, the HSG once again defended its top ranking, which it has held since 2011.

With its strong performance in the other three categories – MBA, Executive MBA as well as open and company-specific executive education programmes – the HSG succeeded in coming in fourth place overall, just after the London Business School, HEC Paris and Insead, an international graduate business school headquartered in France.

Thanks to its outstanding position in the overall ranking, the HSG is both the highest ranked public university in Europe and the highest in the German-speaking world.

“Our goal is to be a public university that offers education at an international level that many students would otherwise have to acquire abroad at an expensive private university,” said HSG Rector Thomas Bieger.

The HSG’s continuing education programme, from which the university earns more than one fifth of its budget and which creates numerous jobs in St.Gallen, also contributed once again to the very good ranking.

Other business schools in Switzerland made the ranking this year: the IMD Business School in Lausanne joined the HSG in the top 10 by coming in seventh place, while HEC Lausanne came in 42nd.
