The Swiss Federal Laboratories for Materials Science and Technology (Empa) in St.Gallen will be one of the locations to play host to Swiss Digital Day, as outlined in a press release issued by Empa. Together with colleagues from the Cantonal Hospital of St.Gallen and scientists from the University of St.Gallen (HSG), Empa researchers will be presenting prototypes and exhibits from their collaboration on the subject of personalized medicine.

Achievements so far include, for example, a textile sensor for the long-term monitoring of patients, new materials for catheters and an innovative procedure to treat blood poisoning. “Here in Eastern Switzerland, we benefit from very short distances”, explains René Rossi, Head of the Biomimetic Membranes and Textiles Laboratory at Empa, in the press release.

The range of topics covered is extremely broad, with digitalization and new materials both playing a major part. The press release explains how “Empa scientists recently developed a digital twin of the human skin that will enable tailor-made therapies”.

Empa, the Cantonal Hospital of St.Gallen and HSG are also working together with regard to the symposium entitled “Digital Health – The Future is Now!”. This will take place on November 14 in the Cantonal Hospital of St.Gallen. Furthermore, the Canton of St. Gallen has also finalized its application for participation in the Swiss Innovation Park. The "Innovation Park East" is to be housed nearby Empa in the building of the Startup Incubator Startfeld. Given the focus on healthcare technologies, it will be relying on the partnership between Empa, the Cantonal Hospital of St.Gallen and HSG.
