The contract awarded by the Polish rail transport company PKP Intercity is worth a total of 270 million Swiss francs and will enter into legal force following expiration of the objection period, as outlined in a press release issued by Stadler Rail. The rail vehicle construction company from the St.GallenBodenseeArea will accordingly deliver a total of 12 long-distance version, FLIRT-type, eight-carriage electric multiple units. Stadler will also cover maintenance for a period of 15 years.
With these new trains, PKP Intercity will be expanding its current fleet of 20 trains in use on the Polish rail network since December 2015. “The trains have covered more than 23 million kilometers since then and are characterized by high reliability and availability”, Stadler Rail announced in the press release.
The trains to now be delivered are constructed used lightweight aluminum, which facilitates a reduction in operational, energy and maintenance costs, as explained in the press release. They will feature a seated capacity of 354 passengers in first and second class, an on-board restaurant, ergonomic seats, modern toilet facilities and efficient air conditioning. Each seat is equipped with a plug socket and individual lighting.
