The ETH has scooped 13th place in this year’s World University Ranking published by Times Higher Education (THE). This makes it the best university outside the Anglo-Saxon countries, despite falling two places compared to last year. In this year’s top spots are the University of Oxford, California Institute of Technology and the University of Cambridge.

The ETH particularly impressed with its international orientation, securing an almost top score of 98.2 points, but also performed well for the number of published papers and for the fields of research and teaching.

It is joined in the top 100 by four other Swiss universities: the Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (EPFL) in 38th place, die University of Zurich in 90th place and the University of Basel in 94th place. In the top 200 universities in the world are the University of Bern (113th), the University of Geneva (144th) and the University of Lausanne (198th).

The THE ranking uses 13 indicators to compare almost 1,400 universities in 92 countries. Teaching environment, research quantity and influence, research contributions from the private economy and international orientation are among the indicators.
