Switzerland named best country in the world

Switzerland has scooped first place worldwide in the latest Best Countries Report from U.S. News & World Report. The country rated highly for its openness to companies and entrepreneurs and its standard of living.

The fifth edition of the Best Countries Report was published this year. The report evaluates 73 countries based on categories including economic influence, education and quality of life. It is published by the U.S. News & World Report in partnership with the BAV Group and the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Good environment for companies

Switzerland has once again come top of the ranking. It impressed in the category for openness to companies, taking second place in large part for its low corporate taxes and transparent government practices. Switzerland is also an outstanding location for entrepreneurs, according to the ranking, which places it fifth in this category. The report highlights the easy access to capital, good networking with the rest of the world and the large number of well-educated specialists. 

Top marks for quality of life

The high quality of life in Switzerland also impressed the jury. In this category, the country took seventh place, with top marks for safety, stable economy, excellent public education institutions and good public healthcare. 

Canada, Japan and Germany ranked just behind Switzerland. Great Britain came in sixth and the USA in seventh.
