Eldico Scientific has won in the final of Venture Kick Stage 3, as detailed in a press release. The start-up headquartered at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI) in Villigen will therefore receive prize winnings of 150,000 Swiss francs, which it intends to use to accelerate the development and eventual sale of its electron diffractometer.
The electron diffractometer developed by Eldico Scientific is used to analyze solid chemical compounds. It enables industrial and scientific researchers to characterize previously unmeasurable nano-crystalline systems. According to information in the press release, the start-up’s tools are faster and less expensive than existing technologies. Moreover, they can be used to examine a wider range of samples. According to Venture Kick, they will open up new commercial perspectives in areas such as the pharmaceutical, agrochemical, chemical, and advanced materials industries.
In 2018, Eldico Scientific achieved the proof of concept on scientifically and industrially relevant samples. The results were nominated by “Science” magazine for the “Breakthrough of the Year 2018” award.
The Venture Kick funding initiative supports start-ups throughout their journey, from the initial idea right up to the founding of a company. The Venture Kick Foundation has mandated the Institute for Young Enterprises (IFJ), which is represented in Schlieren, St.Gallen and Lausanne, with the implementation of the initiative.
