Students at OST – Eastern Switzerland University of Applied Sciences will be given the opportunity to complete a part-time Bachelor degree in Computer Science from the 2021/22 fall semester at the university’s St.Gallen site. According to a press release issued by the OST, a new Bachelor study course in Business Information Technology will in future also be on offer to students at the university’s Rapperswil location. Within the framework of a cantonal IT training campaign, future specialists are to be trained with the aim of “accelerating the digitization of the region’s society and economy”, as detailed in the press release. In addition, the students stand to benefit from the chance to undertake studies at various university locations and thereby begin networking with potential employers while still studying. Both new courses are contributing to strengthening the IT cluster of Eastern Switzerland, which already comprises more than 2,000 companies as of today.
Moreover, a further three new study courses will also be launched in time for the start of the 2021/22 fall semester. The Bachelor degree in Economics and Law, which is to be newly offered to students based in St.Gallen, also focuses on digitization. In this context, the degree will concentrate on the links between aspects including digitization, law and management, the OST states. In addition, degrees in Physiotherapy and Business Administration are to be newly launched in St.Gallen and Rapperswil respectively.
By offering the study courses in Computer Science, Business Information Technology and Business Administration at several locations, the OST is exploiting the strengths and synergies of its various sites. At the same time, the university is seeking to react to “the requirements of the labor market in Eastern Switzerland and regional companies” with its newly created offerings in the form of degrees in Economics and Law and Physiotherapy.
