The Swiss Food & Nutrition Valley (SFNV) association has welcomed the canton of Fribourg as its new member. On one hand, the canton of Fribourg will be able to strengthen the Swiss Food & Nutrition Valley thanks to its many competencies and its position as a bridge between the French and German-speaking parts of Switzerland.

On the other hand, Fribourg will benefit from the international reach of this network founded in the spring of 2020 by the canton of Vaud, Nestlé, and the Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne and the EPFL.

Fribourg, one of the most dynamic cantons in the agri-food industry

The canton of Fribourg aims to be the Swiss leader in the agri-food industry and is characterized by an impressive density of national and even international food companies. The dynamism of the sector is also reflected in investments at both the private and public levels.

For example, the expansion of the Nespresso production plant in Romont (with its center of excellence) represents an investment of CHF 160 million and the creation of 300 jobs. Micarna has also just announced an investment in one of the most modern poultry processing plants in Europe, creating around 500 jobs.

The canton of Fribourg has invested and continues to invest in the bioeconomy and sites dedicated to agri-food innovation, such as the AgriCo Campus in Saint-Aubin, which is dedicated to value creation in the fields of agriculture, nutrition and biomass.
