Next-generation single cell dispensing start-up SEED Biosciences raises CHF 1 million

Life sciences start-up SEED Biosciences has finalized a series A fundraising of CHF 1 million. The capital will support the company’s growth ambitions, product industrialization, and will enable it to further develop its proprietary technology.

SEED Biosciences aims to set new standards in single-cell biology to accelerate the translation of precision medicine from research to personalized therapies to the benefit of patients. Its first product, DispenCell, enables scientists to isolate single cell lines three times faster and ten times cheaper than existing solutions.

The start-up has achieved yet another milestone with the closing of its CHF 1 million series A round. The funding round was led by a new tech-savvy investor together with existing business angels from the biotech and lab automation industries. Proceeds from the round will enable SEED Biosciences to scale to meet strong demand in the single-cell biology field, putting the company on track to reach profitability in 2022.

“Our purpose is to help scientists around the world develop safer and more efficient biotherapies faster and at lower costs. With this funding, we are doubling our team to invest more resources into sales and manufacturing”, said Georges Muller, CEO and co-founder of SEED Biosciences.

A genuine shift in the field of biotechnologies

Founded in 2018 at the EPFL, SEED Biosciences is located at the Biopôle StartLab in Epalinges, in the canton of Vaud. "Over the past decade, we have witnessed a real shift in the field of biotechnology, with the arrival of new solutions resulting from the convergence of several disciplines. With the DispenCell robot, Seed Biosciences is an excellent example of this," explains Nasri Nahas, the incubator's director.
