The Cantonal Bank of Obwalden is now also offering its client base the chance to buy gold with the “Fairtrade Max Havelaar” quality label. This promotes fairness and transparency in the gold trade and supports people in developing countries and emerging economies, as detailed by the bank in a press release.
“Our customers can now invest sustainably in this precious metal”, comments Product Manager Sandro Widmer in the press release. “Thanks to the partnership with Max Havelaar, we know that the strict Fairtrade standards for gold mining are adhered to, from a gold mine in Peru all the way to our counter hall in Obwalden”.
Fairtrade Max Havelaar provides mine workers and their families with the opportunity to secure a better future. The Fairtrade premium allows investments to be carried out that benefit the whole community, the press release explains further. Moreover, long-term trading relationships guarantee the mine workers security in terms of planning. In addition, the Faitrade guidelines regulate the use of chemicals in gold extraction activities. And last but not least, there is an environmental benefit in that compliance with nationally applicable ecological legislation must also ensured.
