Energy transition specialist Urbio raises USD 2 million

Valais-based cleantech Urbio has raised USD 2 million for its software that helps energy providers plan for the global energy transition.

Urbio Team
Valais-based start-up Urbio offers a SaaS platform that accelerates the transition of utilities towards clean energy.

Today, energy providers are faced with sparse data sources and restricted to building-level manual processes, supported primarily by fragmented spreadsheets and other tools. Thanks to innovative software based on research from EPFL, which increases the speed of design and analysis of energy projects tenfold, Urbio streamlines these processes and fosters collaboration while generating highly customized proposals for individual buildings or entire cities.

Founded at the Energypolis Campus and based in Sion (canton of Valais), the start-up has raised USD 2 million in a pre-seed financing round co-led by Wingman Ventures and Contrarian Ventures. This amount will allow this EPFL Valais spin-off to further accelerate its development.

A great leap forward for Urbio

"In addition to the capital that will support our team's growth, we are thrilled to be able to count on our investors' extensive experience in software and climate, as well as their vast international network," said Sebastien Cajot, CEO of Urbio. "Partnering with such forward-thinking individuals is a huge step forward for our company. It will allow us to reach customers faster and with a significantly improved product, equal to the challenge of the energy transition."

This latest round of funding supplements the Tech Seed loan received by Urbio in February 2021, a financing that will allow the cleantech to hire new people, improve its product, and expand its commercial activities within the European Union.
