Machine monitoring from Reishauer on the basis of Artificial Intelligence

Reishauer AG, the Zurich-based gear grinding technology specialist, has developed a program on the basis of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to monitor its continuous generating gear grinding machines. Argus AI is able to detect changes in components such as wear and tear before automatically reporting these findings to a web app. In this way, users can reduce unplanned interruptions and downtimes.

Reishauer specializes in the development of continuous generating gear grinding machines for use in the manufacturing process of transmissions. Components in the machines can now be monitored and evaluated on the basis of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the company writes in a press release.

Using an array of sensors, the automatic component diagnosis program is able to determine whether any machine components have undergone changes. Argus AI then independently reports its assessments to the associated cloud-based web app. For users, the report is presented in the form of a simple color and indicator display.

On this basis, the affected component can be identified quickly and efficiently before being exchanged. “In this way, unplanned downtimes can be avoided, while service and maintenance tasks can be planned more effectively”, the press release explains.

So far, automatic component diagnosis (ACD) is the only Argus AI program available. Argus AI functions exclusively via Reishauer’s cloud platform. Reishauer machines are used by the automotive industry, among other industrial sectors.
