Heidelberger Druckmaschinen AG is turning the headquarters of its subsidiary Gallus, based in St.Gallen, into a competence center for digital label printing. In so doing, the company is strengthening its location in the St.GallenBodenseeArea in response to the growth seen in the label market, further details of which can be found in a press release. A new customer demonstration center known as the Gallus Experience Center is also to be opened at the site towards the end of the year, the press release explains.

The division of the German and Swiss locations into competence centers is to be accompanied by an investment strategy. “With targeted investments in the Gallus Group, we want to gain further momentum in the growing label market”, comments Dr. Ludwin Monz, CEO of Heidelberg, in the press release.

According to information from the company, investments are planned in the areas of equipment, service, software and ink. The reorientation of the location in St.Gallen underlines “the high strategic importance for Heidelberg in the packaging sector”, Monz adds. In total, roughly 160 employees work at the St.Gallen site in both business and R&D management roles in addition to the finance, sales, service, marketing and procurement departments.

As part of the reorientation process, Heidelberger Druckmaschinen has sold off the site in St.Gallen to the entrepreneurs Marcel and Roger Baumer, co-owners and managing directors of the Hälg Group, likewise based in St.Gallen. Gallus will be the anchor tenant as part of this arrangement. “We welcome that the commitment of entrepreneurs Marcel and Roger Baumer will create an innovative environment in St. Gallen from which we can also benefit”, Monz concludes in the press release.
