US medical association to open regional office at UZH

Zurich/Washington D.C. - The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zurich is to take over the hosting and leadership of the European regional office of the Alliance of Academic Health Centers International (AAHCI). The Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and an Italian colleague have both been named as ambassadors.

The Faculty of Medicine at the University of Zurich (UZH) is the new host of the European regional office of the Alliance of Academic Health Centers International (AAHCI). According to a press release, it is set to assume hosting and leadership responsibilities of the AAHCI European regional office from the University of Maastricht in the Netherlands, which was the previous host up to June 2020. Prof. Frank Rühli, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at UZH, and Prof. Luciano Saso from the Faculty of Pharmacy and Medicine at the Sapienza University of Rome, have been named as Regional Ambassadors.

“It is a true privilege for me to lead the AAHCI European regional office with Prof. Saso. Promoting the core values of academia through international collaboration is of utmost importance to society, particularly during these challenging times”, comments Frank Rühli in the press release.

Together, Professors Rühli and Saso will strive to get new cooperations off the ground in addition to supporting members of the association. Moreover, the new regional office in Zurich will seek to facilitate educational programs, exchanges with regard to models for success and best practices as well as data collection and analysis

The Association of Academic Health Centers International is a subsidiary of the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC) based in Washington D.C. in the USA. In total, 155 accredited US and 16 accredited Canadian medical schools, 400 teaching hospitals and more than 70 academic societies are members of the non-profit association AAMC, the purpose of which is centered on “improving the health of people everywhere through medical education, health care, medical research, and community collaborations”.
