ExerGo has received an additional million euros from its current investors to deploy its solution to transfer heat and cold with efficient networks for high-density urban areas.

ExerGo uses renewable resources and waste heat to enable its customers to save up to 80% in primary energy when compared to fossil fuel-based systems. The start-up also sets itself apart from water-based heating and cooling networks by utilizing CO₂ as a working fluid in a closed system. This makes the system denser, up to nine times, significantly smaller, and faster to deploy, resulting in up to 60% savings in network installation costs.

With its all-year-round operating pilot plant in Sion (canton of Valais), which held an open-house inauguration welcoming more than 80 leaders in the energy- and cleantech sector in 2022, and with multiple commercialization projects in the pipeline, the start-up is focused on blazing a new path toward sustainable energy.

ExerGo has raised an additional EUR 1 million in capital from its existing investors – EREN Groupe, Baker Hughes, and a private investor – to speed up its commercialization and expand into new markets. This funding adds up to the EUR 3.2 million seed funding round concluded in 2022. The Swiss Climate Foundation and The Foundation for Technological Innovation (FIT), both development partners, are further supporting the company’s growth.

Vincent Eckert, Managing Director, Swiss Climate Foundation, said: “We need innovative technologies to accelerate the decarbonization of our cities. ExerGo, supported by the Swiss Climate Foundation, develops an urgently needed solution to transfer heat and cold with efficient networks for high-density urban areas. This allows the use of residual heat and cold, that would be wasted otherwise.”

ExerGo is gaining recognition as it advances its technology, and more utilities, municipalities, and private companies worldwide are embracing its innovative solutions. The start-up is also expanding its services to the real estate market, where it will present its compact thermal network to over 2,500 professionals at RENT – Switzerland’s leading real estate event.
