The solar shading specialist Griesser, based in the St.GallenBodenseeArea, has launched a sustainable awning collection. The fabrics carry the name ‘modern basics blue’ and consist of 85 percent PET plastic. According to a press release, they were developed by the Cologne-based subsidiary weinor in cooperation with the Italian fabric manufacturer Parà. This is the first sustainable awning collection worldwide, the company writes in the press release.

In this context, a total of 390 PET bottles are used to produce 25 square meters of awning fabric. According to the information, the production of the fabric uses 90 percent less water than conventional dyeing processes and generates 45 percent less carbon dioxide. The fabrics have already won seven awards, including the Red Dot Design Award and the iF Design Award.

The company has included the sustainable ‘modern basics blue’ fabrics in its Emotion awning fabric collection. It features a total of 50 different designs that are based on current architectural trends and contemporary interior design.

“Griesser attaches great importance to the ecologically sensible use of resources. We are therefore delighted to have another addition that fits in perfectly with our company”, comments Urs Neuhauser, CEO of Griesser, in the press release.

The awning fabrics part of the Emotion collection are certified in line with the OEKO-TEX Standard 100 and are therefore free of any substances that are harmful to human health or the environment. Moreover, according to information from the manufacturer itself, the fabrics are colorfast, dirtproof, water-repellent and tear-resistant, in addition to blocking between 93.3 and 97.5 percent of UV radiation.
