Aerolite AG from Ennetbürgen in the canton of Nidwalden will supply structural carbon components for the SFX1 aircraft being developed by smartflyer AG according to a press release. The aircraft from the company based in Grenchen in the canton of Solothurn are currently still in development. The four-seater aircraft are designed to fly with a hybrid electric propulsion system. The first flight is scheduled to take place in 2023.

Aerolite’s structural carbon components are characterized by their low weight, which is particularly important to smartflyer. The Nidwalden-based company also develops similar, lightweight components for rescue helicopters.

Aerolite’s new developments also include an intensive ward that can be built into fixed-wing aircraft. It contains the systems and facilities required to provide intensive care during a flight. The intensive ward is also characterized by its low weight, among other things. The company uses aluminum, a honeycomb structure, and carbon fiber composites to achieve this.

Aerolite was founded in 1996 and specializes in the development and implementation of innovative internal equipment for rescue helicopters, ambulance aircraft and business aircraft. The company has already equipped helicopters for Pilatus, an aircraft manufacturer that is also based in Nidwalden. For example, Aerolite has constructed ambulance interiors for type PC-24 Pilatus machines, which are now used by the Swedish emergency service Kommunalförbundet Svenskt Ambulansflyg (KSA).
