At the heart of Facebook’s presence in Zurich is its virtual reality subsidiary Oculus, reported an article in “Handelszeitung”. “Oculus is opening a development office for machine vision in Zurich,” commented spokesperson Tina Kulow in the article.
Facebook also recently took on a project of the Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH) and the University of Zurich (UZH). Zurich Eye will see ten researchers work on vision, as well as precise and autonomous movement of machines. These researchers are now moving into the new development office, where they will work for Oculus.
Facebook Switzerland intends to concentrate increasingly on research and development in its headquarters in Geneva, as well as in a new location on Zurich’s Bahnhofstrasse. Facebook Switzerland’s share capital has been increased from CHF 120,000 to CHF 2.02 million. jh
