Safe Host opens Switzerland’s largest data center

Located in the municipality of Gland, between Lausanne and Geneva, Safe Host’s new data center will have the capacity to host 3,600 racks for servers.

A data center
Swiss company Safe Host has inaugurated the country’s largest data center in Gland.

Against the backdrop of the exponential increase of data volume and the growing security needs for businesses, Safe Host has inaugurated SH2, Switzerland’s largest state-of-the-art, carrier-neutral data center facility. Located in Gland, in the French-speaking canton of Vaud, SH2 has a colocation capacity of 14,400 m2 with 40 MVA dual power feeds to site. The data center will be deployed in 2,000 m2 increments every 18 months. 2,000 m2 are immediately available.

From big 900-m2 rooms to smaller rooms, the new facility offers flexible spaces to local SMEs, multinationals, and Cloud suppliers. SH2 is Safe Host’s third data center in Switzerland, after the Plan-les-Ouates site near Geneva, which has been operational for nearly 15 years, and another in Avenches, in the canton of Vaud, which was inaugurated last year.

A strategic choice for host providers

The Data Center Risk Index assesses the physical, economic, and social risks that could jeopardize the security of data. According to the 2016 edition, Switzerland is the third safest country in the world to host data, based on a number of criteria including political stability, risks of natural disasters and energy security. Moreover, the country offers an ideal setting for data protection.
