The concept of smart cities touches upon multiple business sectors, like mobility, energy efficiency, intelligent energy supply (smartgrid) and waste and water management. Reducing resource consumption is one of the main goals of the smart city, so a big part of smart city activities consist of the application and optimization of clean technologies on an urban scale, considering whole cities or neighborhoods. There is an obvious link between smart cities and clean technology.
What about the situation in Spain?
Spain is one of the leading countries in wind power production and technology. However, this advantage has not been implemented in cities yet. Another issue for Spain is intense water usage. The main industry is tourism, which is well-known for its high consumption of water. Another sector that depends on a sufficient water supply is agriculture. At the same time, most regions of the country suffer from extreme water stress.
