The Swiss Design Kiosk is a promotional initiative showcasing design made in Switzerland. Launched in the fall of 2016 by the Embassy of Switzerland in Japan with the support of the Swiss Business Hub Japan and over fifteen partner companies and institutions, the Kiosk has been touring in multiple locations in Japan, from Tokyo to Osaka. It offers an opportunity for creative Swiss brands to introduce their products to Japanese design-aficionados. Interested companies or designers should get in touch with the curation team by the end of March/April 2017.
A glimpse of Swiss design and lifestyle
The Swiss Design Kiosk aims at offering the Japanese audience a glimpse of Swiss design and lifestyle. The focus is on products that are typically used in every-day life in Switzerland. This includes original brands, both new and established ones, ranging from beddings, stationary products, watches, the iconic Swiss Army knives, toolboxes, cups, chairs, to vintage design pieces. The curation team narrates the original angle of each product while pointing out the “swissness” of each.
Pop-up and online store
The project involves a uniquely designed pop-up store, created by prize-winning designer Colin Schälli. Made of Swiss wood and assembled in Japan, it is composed of multiple movable elements, which allows for quick setup and flexibility to adapt to different spaces and surroundings. The Kiosk further aspires to open an online store in May 2017 for a Japanese audience.
Participate through partnership
Companies or designers can participate in the Kiosk through sponsorship, i.e. providing either their name, story or product, or by offering their products on a commission basis.
Interested parties should get in touch with the curation team preferably by the end of March/April 2017.
