Swiss financial sector promotes Fintech

Switzerland is to become an internationally leading centre for digitalisation and innovation in the financial sector. That is the goal of a new association known as Swiss Fintech Innovations.

Leading companies from the Swiss financial centre have joined forces to found a new association called Swiss Fintech Innovations. The aim is to create a joint platform for forward-looking initiatives in financial technology that will promote the digitalisation of the financial industry, writes a press release. At the same time, the association plans to facilitate contact between the financial sector, the scientific community, start-up companies, service providers, authorities, organisations and policy makers.

The new association focuses on attracting and promoting innovative companies and professionals, while also aiming to support the best regulatory frameworks and technical standards. It also hopes to communicate the strengths of the Swiss financial centre on a national and international level, and is planning a collaboration with the Swiss Fintech Research Lab, which is currently under construction at the University of Zurich. It also plans to work with existing innovation labs, as well as accelerators, funding programmes and investors.

Gian Reto à Porta, founder and CEO of Contovista and board member at Swiss Finance Startups, commented: “Simple and direct access to the financial industry, investors and authorities is of the highest importance for Fintech startups. Swiss Fintech Innovations is bringing us a critical step closer to this."

Swiss Fintech Innovations is currently being supported both financially and operationally by member companies. Among them are Credit Suisse, Helvetia, Hypothekarbank Lenzburg, Lombard Odier, Raiffeisen, the SIX Group, Swiss Life, Zurich private bank Vontobel and Zürcher Kantonalbank. However, accession talks are on-going with a range of companies and institutions, according to the association.
