Switzerland is one of the most secure countries in the world

The American think tank “Institute for Economics and Peace” has published a list of the safest countries in the world for the tenth time. For the “Global Peace Index 2016” experts examined over 160 countries in terms of their conflict potential or peace status.

Switzerland is once again in

The peace ranking in Europe deteriorated as a result of various attacks.. Nevertheless, the experts regard Europe as the most peaceful region in the world. As was the case last year, Switzerland ranks among the top ten. Although Switzerland slipped from fifth to seventh place this year, it leaves countries such as Germany or Sweden far behind. It is noteworthy that the only non-European countries in the top ten were Japan, Canada and New Zealand.

Spain, one of Switzerland’s favorite holiday destinations, even only ranked 25th. The main reasons are that the crime rate is considered to be very high, and arms exports have increased. But the analysis also recorded positive trends. The situation has thus stabilized in 70 countries, including holiday destinations such as Thailand, Costa Rica and Panama.

Each country was analyzed on the basis of 23 factors, including the degree of security and freedom in society, the emergence of regional and international conflicts and militarization. Each factor was given a maximum of five points - the higher the score, the lower a country ranked in the corresponding area.

These are all important factors that make Switzerland an attractive business location for foreign investors. Further information is available in the Handbook for Investors (“Security and trust” section).
