Switzerland is one of the most socially advanced countries in the world

Switzerland belongs to the most socially advanced nations of the world according to the Social Progress Index 2015. Thanks to a great score it is ranked third. Switzerland particularly excels in the categories «Basic Human Needs» and «Foundations of Wellbeing» where it is positioned second.

The Social Progress Index analyzes about 140 countries in the categories «Basic Human Needs», «Foundations of Wellbeing» and «Opportunities». Thereby, the three domains are divided into sub categories such as «Nutrition and Basic Medical Care», «Access to Basic Knowledge» or «Personal Freedom and Choice». Scored 88 points Switzerland positions itself on the third rank. Only Norway and Sweden reached a higher score.
Within the basic human needs Switzerland gets the top score of 99.93 points in the sub category «Water and Sanitation». Also, the country proves to be very strong in the sub category «Access to Basic Knowledge» as well as the personal freedom and choice. On «ecosystem sustainability» Switzerland ranks as the most socially advanced nation of the world.
The Social Progress Index has been published by the US American company Social Progress Imperative. The non-profit-organization has been working on the study in collaboration with Harvard Business School, the MIT as well as several international organizations.
