The Export Award recognizes successful, internationally active businesses whose expansion strategy, the transparency of their internationalization concept, and the consistent and successful implementation thereof are really convincing. The Zurich-based startup Nispera (data solutions for renewable energy systems), the Basel-based telemedicine provider Medgate, and the Thurgau-based family business Penergetic (ecological and economical agriculture) all made it to the final. We will find out which of the three companies will come out on top of its competitors at the award ceremony on September 30, 2021.
Jury with renowned personalities
The voluntary and independent jury is made up of renowned figures from the worlds of business, academia and media within Switzerland: Ralph Siegl (Jury President), Stefan Barmettler (Editor-in-Chief Handelszeitung), Martin Naville (CEO Swiss-American Chamber of Commerce), Emanuel Probst (CEO JURA Elektroapparate), Winfried Ruigrok (Professor of Business Economics at the University of St. Gallen HSG), Nicola Thibaudeau (CEO and Delegate of the Supervisory Board of MPS Micro Precision Systems), Franziska Tschudi Sauber (CEO and Delegate of the Supervisory Board of Weidmann) and Monika Walser (CEO de Sede).

In addition to this, the finalists and the winner will receive vouchers for export business support from S-GE (for entering a new market, for example), free S-GE Gold Membership for one year, a winner’s trophy and also free tickets to the S-GE International Trade Forum. They will also be allowed to use the “Export Award” label and the image film produced especially for them.

Nispera: Strong growth abroad thanks to targeted planning
Founded in 2015, Nispera provides data solutions for renewable energy systems. The software-as-a-service (SaaS) platform of the Zurich-based startup is already in use in more than 150 wind turbines, 250 photovoltaic facilities and 20 hydropower plants in over 25 countries. The 15-strong international team achieves more than 80% of its turnover abroad. Its goal is to access further markets and achieve 97% of its turnover internationally. To this end, potential customers are identified by the Global Head of Sales and worked on by the team. Before the corona pandemic, the startup also took part in relevant events in the target markets. Thanks to its good reputation, it now benefits immensely from recommendations by satisfied customers.
Medgate: On an international course of expansion with telemedicine
Medgate is Europe’s leading telemedicine provider. Founded in 1999, the digital healthcare pioneer from Basel offers both patients and health insurers comprehensive, location-independent medical care – around the clock. Thanks to consultations via app, phone, video and chat, unnecessary visits to the doctor can be avoided and the medical care quality can be kept high. Since 2014, the Basel-based company has been expanding and, in addition to Switzerland, is now also present in the UAE, the Philippines, India and Germany. As the best-known and most trusted telemedicine brand in Switzerland, it is now time to push ahead with the international expansion strategy and open up further markets.
Penergetic International: Exports to over 35 countries
Penergetic has developed a technology that enables efficient and optimal use of natural resources in agriculture. This optimizes animal farming as well as creating high-yield crop cultivation, fertile soil and an improvement in slurry and compost. The ambitious 20-year-old family business from Thurgau is present in over 35 countries and exports 95% of what it produces. Local marketing, which is a complex matter, is usually handled by exclusive distribution partners. They have the local know-how and a network in the area of agriculture. Its goal is to continue growing nationally and internationally by increasing sales volumes in existing markets while expanding the partner network.
