KAYAK, the online travel search and planning technology company founded in 2004, is listed by Time Magazine as one of the 50 best websites in the USA and regularly mentioned among the top travel apps.
When KAYAK decided to expand to Europe, the company chose Zurich: «The city fulfilled all our criteria for a European headquarters», explains Managing Director Europe Jan Valentin. Among the decisive factors for KAYAK were the city’s central location within Europe, excellent infrastructure, and proximity to the international airport. «The airport infrastructure allows us to conveniently book flights to our main markets on short notice.»
Valentin sees great potential for the future because «highly qualified, internationally experienced specialists» abound in Zurich: «Our developers are continuously working on simplifying travel planning and organization, allowing us to provide our users not only with a range of tools but also to search for travel occasions.» The Managing Director also praises «the relaxed atmosphere» in Switzerland, and appreciates «the high quality of life in every respect. There are no strikes and the transport network has been developed optimally.»
Fast contact mediation via Swiss Business Hub USA
In September 2010 KAYAK contacted the Swiss Business Hub USA, the Swiss trade and investment promotion agency representing Switzerland Global Enterprise (S-GE) in the USA. The technology company was quickly provided with information and contacts, and introduced to representatives of the Greater Zurich Area economic region. With the collective assistance from the Swiss authorities the company was up and running by March 2011.
