Why Africa?
Africa as continent is globally seen as an emerging market, with opportunities in a multitude of sectors and industries. Especially in the FinTech space, the adoption of FinTech innovations are solving real challenges in people’s daily lives since more than 350 million of the population in Africa is unbanked (according to GSMA, 2017). FinTech provides life-changing services in banking and insurance with new technologies like mobile money, online payment processing, lending and investing is changing the efficiency level of the whole financial sector. Africa became a leader in mobile-driven innovation and Startups of its FinTech sector have received more investment in the past three years than others. The ecosystem has grown rapidly and is set to grow to $3bn from $200mil by 2020!
Africa FinTech Festival
This year, Mauritius hosts the Africa FinTech Festival from 13.10.2021 - 15.10.2021 and more than 2’000 visitors are expected. It seeks to foster greater collaboration between African ecosystems. Besides various other countries, Egypt, Nigeria, Kenya and Ethiopia have already confirmed their attendance with official delegations and Switzerland as well as the UK and Canada will be represented with an official delegation as well.
Why the event is hosted in Mauritius
With a healthy, well-established legal system, favorable tax rate, fast internet connection and respected financial regulatory authorities, Mauritius has the right mix to power FinTech growth in Africa. It strives to be a leading FinTech hub and gateway to and from Africa and as a test-bed for experimenting FinTech products.
