Market size

According to the Ministry of Economic Development of Russia, the size of the IT market in 2015 was about 11.4 blnUSD. During that year the market diminished in USD equivalent but in rubles the market dynamics were positive, growing slightly by 4.7%.

Market structure

The general structure of the Russian IT market is similar to the global market. According to IDC, the largest segment is IT services (20%). Personal Computers and Mobile phones are 18% each, Software -15% and Telecom equipment –10%. Other IT related equipment is about 19%. The market niches that showed positive growth were convergent solutions, flash technologies for data storage systems and cloud data centers solutions.

Key market tendencies

According to the leaders of the IT industry, the main market tendencies will include IT outsourcing, cloud technologies, data protection, virtual and augmented reality, internet of things and Big Data.

Moscow

Moscow, the capital of the Russian Federation, has approx. 11.5 million inhabitants and is the vibrant heart of this large country and its economy. It has one of the largest municipal economies in Europe and it accounts more than 1/5 of Russian GDP. Moscow and the Moscow region have been among the most dynamically growing regions of the Russian Federation for the last few years.

The capital and its agglomeration serve as a hub for importers and wholesalers but is also itself an enormous interior market. Although the Moscow area is already very well-developed, there is still potential for newcomers.

Moscow is the financial center of Russia and home to the country's largest banks and many of its largest companies, such as natural gas giant Gazprom. Moscow accounts for 17% of retail sales in Russia and for 13% of all construction activity in the country.

Novosibirsk

The Novosibirsk Region is situated in the south-east part of West Siberian Plain, in-between the rivers Ob and Irtysh and has a population of about 2.8 million people.

The total gross regional product of the Novosibirsk Region was about ₽957 bln in 2015. Economic growth is achieved by business facilitation, increase in business activity, social, transport and engineering infrastructure development.

Large and medium-sized enterprises form the basis of the industrial complex of the Novosibirsk Region, on which over 80% of industrial output is realized. In the structure of the Novosibirsk region industry the biggest relative share is accounted for the food production including beverages; production and distribution of electricity, gas and water; production of electrical appliances, electronic and optical equipment; metallurgical production and production of hardware; production of other non-metallic mineral commodities.

The Novosibirsk Region is one of the largest centers of the Russian Federation, it has been maintaining leadership in the field of science and technology for more than 50 years.
