Fact-Finding Mission

Swiss businesswomen mission to India

This event is in the past

The mission is ideal for businesswomen and female entrepreneurs who are already active in India and are looking to solidify and broaden their footprint or tap into new networks. It is also the perfect entry point for new entrants, seeking to discover opportunities, learn about doing business on the subcontinent and forge new relationships.

India

Switzerland Global Enterprise and the Swiss Business Hub India are organizing for Swiss and Liechtenstein businesswomen and female entrepreneurs, a trip to India from November 04 – 07, 2019.
This trip is for all those who are active in India, have existing business relationships, are keen to forge new ones; and equally important, for those who want to strengthen their network and learn about the

Who should participate and why?

Designed especially for female participants, the trip aims to open up Indian women networks which, for cultural reasons, tend to work differently from the generally male dominated business world of the South-Asian subcontinent. It is thus worthwhile for Swiss businesswomen to explore and access these networks separately. India, one of the fastest growing economies, clocked up an impressive 7.5% GDP growth at the end of 2018, and has steadily climbed the ladder of global indicators such as the “Easy of doing business”. A remarkable number of Swiss companies with their innovative mind-set, clearly defined USP and future oriented vision, have been steadily enlarging their presence in India.

Why a delegation of businesswomen?

Of the multitude of factors influencing economic growth, the impact of workforce gender parity has been an ongoing debate, especially in a global scenario where the percentage of women participating in the workforce is declining.
The conversation about women’s participation in the workforce is particularly relevant for India. The World Bank’s 2017 India Development Report ranks India 120th out of 131 countries in the world, on female labor force participation. A McKinsey study estimates that women’s contribution to the GDP stands at just 18%. In Switzerland too, even though women have made significant inroads in high-skilled areas, gender parity is not yet achieved all over in the labor market. The Economist’s 2018 Glass Ceiling Index, which measures environment for working women ranks Switzerland 21st out of 21 European countries, and 26th out of 29 OECD countries.
Despite these odds, there are countless examples of women in both countries who have earned distinguished positions as businesswomen and entrepreneurs; and have made significant contributions in other fields as well.

What can participants expect?

Swiss and Liechtenstein businesswomen and female entrepreneurs can expect a program covering the following elements; with the possibility of organizing tailor-made program options, upon request from participants:

  • Meaningful exchanges with peers and potential business partners
  • Conversations with subject experts on topics such as business culture, the role of women in Indian society and business and how Swiss businesswomen can benefit from these special networks
  • Visits to manufacturing plants, interactions with start-ups and accelerators/incubators and topic specific roundtables and panel discussions
  • All domestic travel, stay arrangements and assistance with visa will be provided
