Connecting Swiss Cleantech Expertise with Kenya’s Private Sector

Connecting Swiss Cleantech Expertise with Kenya’s Private Sector

Kenya time: 11:00 – 12:15

Kenya's commitment to sustainable growth in addition to the nation's need and impetus for a paradigm shift in waste management and a move towards circular economies presents unique opportunities for Swiss companies to introduce innovative solutions to the region´s waste management, energy production, water management and agriculture sectors.

Clean technology is a promising and rapidly growing market in Kenya, with sustainable growth being a major focus of Kenya's 2030 development agenda (“Vision 2030”). Swiss and Liechtenstein companies offer innovative solutions in the clean technology sector. Several such Swiss companies have already been active in Kenya.

The newly elected President H.E. Ruto in his inauguration speech mentioned that Kenya is on a transition to clean energy that will support jobs, local economies and the sustainable industrialization. He further reiterated that Kenya will lead this endeavor by reaffirming a commitment to transition to 100% clean energy by 2030.

Notably, Kenya boasts extensive renewable resources for solar, hydro, wind and geothermal, making renewable energy and clean technology (including circular economy e.g. Waste Management) particularly promising sectors. As waste continues to pile up on landfills, there is a strong need and opportunity to introduce innovative waste management solutions.

Kenya acts as a gateway into the East African market for many international businesses, in conjunction with the nation's political and institutional stability, geographic position and drive towards cleantech adoption, this presents an opportunity for Swiss companies to enter the East African market.

Given these parameters - a growing demand in Kenya for high-tech solutions in the field of clean technology, the offer of innovative solutions by Swiss companies, and the aforementioned regional drivers for adoption of these innovative solutions – now is an opportune moment to bring Swiss a Kenyan companies together to perform a technological "leap-frog" in Kenya’s cleantech adoption.

Leading up to an on-the-ground Fact-Finding Mission in Kenya in Q1 2023, this virtual event brings together Kenya and Switzerland´s private sectors to explore the following thematic areas:

  • Waste Management
  • Energy Production
  • Water Management
  • Agriculture
