Webinar: medtech peer-to-peer sessions

Swiss Medtech’s Foreign Trade expert group (Fachgruppe Aussenhandel SWISS MEDTECH) is hosting its first ever public event about the global medtech sector. Join specialized sessions with industry experts and other medtech companies to discuss trade compliance and the challenges and opportunities of doing business abroad. Ask questions, receive advice and learn from the experiences of companies operating in your (future) markets.

The aim of this online peer-to-peer event is to enable companies to share their experiences and discuss the international business challenges and opportunities in the medtech sector. After an introductory session, three breakout sessions will give participants the opportunity to delve deeper into topics that directly affect their businesses.

In-depth discussions: From opportunities in Africa to uncertainties in Iran

The breakout sessions will be guided by experts with experience in the relevant field or country. The first session looks at how to navigate the unique uncertainties and benefits of doing business in Iran and the post-Brexit United Kingdom. The discussion will provide valuable insights for companies thinking about entering those markets as well as existing market players. In the second session participants will explore medtech opportunities and emerging trends in South Africa, Nigeria and Egypt, while the third session will be a discussion of common trade compliance issues with peer input about how to successfully handle them.

The Foreign Trade expert group (Fachgruppe Aussenhandel SWISS MEDTECH) consists of medtech executives and specialists who manage the globalization of business activities and export/import issues at a strategic or operational level. Members of the group help each other to export Swiss goods into foreign markets, minimize the associated risks and comply with all the relevant legal provisions.

Session A) Navigating uncertainties in Iran and post-Brexit Britain

Both countries are perennially ranked among the top countries of interest for MedTech companies. Both countries offer their own unique opportunities, along with their unique uncertainties. In this break-out session we will shed light on how to navigate both, and hear about the experiences from peers who are active in these markets. The session will be guided by experts from Iran and Britain, who contribute their insights and expertise. The aim of the session is to provide learnings and current perspectives to peers contemplating a market entry, as well as those already present in the market.

Session B) Exploring business opportunities in Africa (South Africa, Nigeria, Egypt)

Medical technology is seen as the key-driver for rolling out universal and improved health coverage on the African continent. In this session experts and peers will discuss their experiences and highlight opportunities and emerging trends. The objective of the session is to provide participants with an opportunity map for South Africa, Nigeria and Egypt and exchange lessons learned and best practices.

Speaker: Mr. Marlon Burgess, Dr.  Nadia Cheaib, Mr. Nelson Igbiriki and presented by Suhail el Obeid, Senior Consultant Africa, Middle East, Iran & Turkey, Switzerland Global Enterprise

Session C) Trade Compliance Challenges: Learnings from your peers

In this break-out session we will discuss common trade compliance issues and hear from peers how to successfully handle them. Please share your daily challenges that you face in exporting your medtech products with other participants and learn from their pitfalls such as how the Free Trade Agreements can be applied and what needs to be considered when using a FTA or how to define the country of origin and what effects an incorrect origin can have on your product or price.

Aim of this session is to pool know-how that exists in each company so that we can benefit from each other as the entire Swiss Medtech industry on common trade compliance issues.

Speaker: Ms. Regula Grau, Export Specialist, Switzerland Global Enterprise and presented by Sirpa Tsimal, Director Investment Promotion, Switzerland Global Enterprise
