Learn about the Cleantech universe in Canada and Switzerland from a business perspective. This high-level panel will discuss business practices, investment opportunities and the development and potential of the Swiss and Canadian Cleantech sectors.

 

Panelists will discuss market entry strategies, both between Canada and Switzerland, but also in the North American and European Markets in general. We will also discuss the latest market trends and opportunities in the respective Cleantech sectors. Two case studies of a Canadian and a Swiss company will illustrate these aspects.

Deputy Minister of International Trade

David Morrison was appointed Deputy Minister of International Trade in January 2022, following his role as the Foreign and Defence Policy Adviser to the Prime Minister. Since 2019, he acts as Personal Representative of the Prime Minister for the G7 Summit.
His public service career included various positions at Global Affairs Canada, the UN Capital Development Fund, the UN Development Programme, the Canadian Embassy in Havana and the Executive Board of the World Economic Forum in Geneva.
He holds a master’s degree of Philosophy in International Relations, from the University of Oxford, and a bachelor’s degree in History from Yale University.

State Secretary for Economic Affairs, Switzerland

Since 2011, Marie-Gabrielle Ineichen-Fleisch is State Secretary and Director of the State Secretariat of Economic Affairs SECO. 
Previously, she was Ambassador and Delegate of the Federal Council for Trade Agreements, Swiss Chief negotiator in the WTO and Head of the World Trade Division. 
The lawyer and MBA holder worked in Government Procurement and dispute settlement. In addition to her roles at SECO, she was active for the World Bank.

CEO, Canada Cleantech Alliance

Maike Althaus is the Executive Director of Canada Cleantech Alliance as well as of the Ontario Clean Technology Industry Association (OCTIA). In this double role, she advocates for Canada’s cleantech companies to address the sector’s key challenges: access to capital, markets and customers. Through her work, Maike mitigates risk for all parties whether it is reputational, financial or political.

CEO, Loop Energy Inc. (Case Study 1)

As President & CEO of Loop Energy, Ben Nyland guides the company’s vision to design and manufacture fuel cell solutions for the commercial vehicle industry. Ben was appointed as President of Loop Energy in 2015 and Chief Executive Officer in 2016. He has led Loop's growth with expanded facilities in China and Europe, launched three products, and brought the company through the IPO process in 2021, raising $100 million on the TSX.

CEO Core Energy Recovery Solutions, Zehnder Group (Case Study 2)

Peter Tyszewicz is the CEO of Core Energy Recovery Solutions, Canada, a subsidiary of the Swiss based Zehnder Group. Core develops & manufactures products to improve building air quality with reduced energy requirements and also supplies fuel cell humidifiers.  A Mechanical Engineer from Queen's University and an MBA from the University of Detroit-Mercy, Peter has led companies in hydrogen, solar, wind and automotive industries.

Fabian Etter has been working at the interface of sustainability, business and politics for more than 15 years. He is Co-President of the business association swisscleantech, founder of a sustainability consultancy, and a member of the Board of Directors of the family-owned company Elektro Etter. In the past, he held leading positions at the telecommunications company Swisscom and the consulting firm Energie Zukunft Schweiz.
