The greatest concentration of population in Canada is in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), which comprises over 8 million people. Both the province and the GTA are experiencing strong growth in numbers as they receive a significant share of the 300,000 people immigrating to Canada each year.
The GTA is one of the hottest construction markets in North America. According to Rider Levett Bucknall’s Q1-2021 North American Crane Index, there are currently 208 construction cranes in Toronto, far ahead of second place Washington, D.C. with 45 cranes. The majority of the cranes were for residential construction as there were 20,000 condominium unit starts in Toronto in 2020.
