The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare/Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has issued notification F. No. 1829/Health Certificate/FSSAI/Imports (2021). The new regulation requires that all milk and milk products, pork and pork products, as well as fish and fish products to be imported into India have to be accompanied by a health certificate.
As from January 1, 2023, in addition to the sanitary/veterinary certificate (already issued for the food products by exporting countries) pork, fish and milk products must be accompanied by the new health certificate issued by the competent authority of the exporting country. The certificate must comply with the format attached in the FSSAI notification in Annexure I. FSSAI clarified on September 26th that they also accept the sanitary/veterinary and the new health certificate as single/integrated certificate incorporating all food safety requirements.
