US Additional Tariffs on Semiconductors

Jan 15, 2026

As of January 15, 2026, the United States has tightened its trade policy measures on high-performance semiconductors ("semiconductor articles"). These specific semiconductors are now subject to an additional Section 232 tariff of 25%. This tariff applies on top of existing duties (e.g., MFN tariffs). By July 1, 2026, the US will review whether tariff adjustments are necessary based on an update to datacenter chip classifications.

Which products are affected?

Products classified under the following HTSUS codes are subject to the additional 25% tariff:

  • 8471.50
  • 8471.80
  • 8473.30

Exemptions from the additional tariffs:

Products intended for the following uses are exempt from these additional tariffs:

  • Datacenters in the United States
  • Research and development in the United States
  • Non-datacenter consumer and civilian industrial applications
  • Use in the US public sector
  • Any use that contributes to the US technology supply chain

Note: Current additional tariffs are available at any time in the customs database. Updates are typically made on specific dates but may be delayed by up to one business day in the event of short-notice changes.
