How Swiss Solar Cells Are Entering the U.S. Market

Nov 4, 2025

Printed solar cells from Perovskia Solar are revolutionizing the design and concept of electronic devices. Even in low light conditions, appliances equipped with this technology can generate their own energy. Anand Verma, CEO and co-founder, explains how the Vaud startup attracted the American market.

Why did you choose to enter the American market?

In the first two years, we focused on technology development without having an aggressive marketing and communication strategy. Yet we knew that one day we would have to cross the borders of Switzerland to tell the world we exist.

The decision to approach the US market was anything but a coincidence. Indeed, our first client was American and we knew there was a real interest in our technology in that market.

You decided to participate in the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas. What did your participation in such an important trade show bring you?

First of all, we gained visibility through the many meetings we had with clients. With the help of S-GE and its network, we were able to connect with around 20 clients and 30 potential investors. One of these meetings could lead to a contract worth 1 million US dollars. Secondly, we received good media coverage. Thanks to interviews conducted at the fair with several specialist media, some interested companies contacted us more than three months after the end of the CES.

As a small startup from the canton of Vaud, did you feel alone at this huge international trade fair?

One of the great things about the S-GE stand is that you are never alone. There are about ten startups with which you can exchange and share. Personally, I always ask the other entrepreneurs a lot of questions. Everyone has their own experience and gives you honest and very ‘cash’ advice such as ‘Don’t do that!’”

There are many support offers for Swiss startups that want to go international. Why did you choose to work with S-GE?

For a startup, one of the biggest fears when you start a relationship with a partner is not the lack of money but the lack of time. You’re wondering: “Is the game worth it?” Because time is often more valuable than money. The first contacts with S-GE were very positive and the organization of the first events was excellent. These kinds of results give you confidence and you know that the time you invest is worth it.

Finally, do you have any final advice for a startup?

Take advantage of a trade fair to get in touch with your competitors! It’s sometimes forgotten, but meeting with a competitor can also open up opportunities for collaboration.
