Ideal-tek – Swiss precision instruments for high-tech industries

Tweezers, precision scissors, pliers, multi-purpose tools, probes, and visual inspection systems: Ideal-tek has been developing and producing precision instruments in Ticino since 1964. They are designed for industries in which the tiniest details are critical – from medtech and electronics through the watch industry and the life sciences. The requirements vary significantly, depending on the area of application: Sterilisable stainless steel is needed in medicine, anti-magnetic and anti-static tools in electronics, while the watch industry requires non-reflective surfaces. The instruments are manufactured in Balerna TI, from where they are exported to 45 countries – sold by a global network of around 150 distribution partners. The company employs around 70 people.

Ideal-tek generates around 90 percent of its sales from exports. The company targets markets in which industries are dependent on reliable, high-precision tools. In addition to maximum precision, Ideal-tek offers competitive prices, fast service response times and customized solutions developed at pace. The company also has the most comprehensive range of precision instruments in Europe.
 

Key markets in North America, Asia, and Latin America

One of the key challenges is to ensure the high availability of the tools, since an urgent need can arise at short notice, particularly in sectors such as medtech. In the USA – the market with the highest demands in terms of delivery times – Ideal-tek meets this expectation with its own subsidiary and local stocks.

Other important markets are Costa Rica and China. Costa Rica has become an important hub for the medtech industry. Ideal-tek was able to increase its sales there tenfold within two years, mainly due to a strong position in medical technology. The company also had an early presence in China: Back in 2002, Ideal-tek was the first Swiss manufacturer of handcrafted precision tools to enter the country and position itself in this important future market.
 

Collaboration with local partners as growth driver

When entering new markets, Ideal-tek works closely with local partners to develop customer-specific solutions together. “In Costa Rica, we joined forces with a world leader in neurovascular catheters to develop a tool that makes production more efficient, reduces waste, and improves the repeatability of assembly processes,” explains Sandro Grisoni, CEO and Chairman of the Board of Directors.

In addition, the company is strengthening its international presence through targeted appearances at specialist trade shows in the USA, Europe, and Asia. Ideal-tek also uses the trade fair services of Switzerland Global Enterprise and, for instance, participated in the SWISS Pavilion in the USA and China. By doing so, the company aims to continue expanding its relationships with key markets and strengthen its position as a Swiss premium supplier of precision instruments in the healthcare sector.
