Xovis – Swiss precision measures people flows worldwide

Xovis AG has grown into a global leader in smart people flow management since its founding in 2008. Worldwide, 300,000 Xovis sensors are in use at airports, in retail, transport, and smart buildings.

Since its founding in 2008, Xovis AG has developed into a global market leader for intelligent people flow management. Their highly precise sensors capture the people present in a space and interpret the data using artificial intelligence. This determines desired attributes such as gender, location, or gaze direction, as well as tracking movements. This technology allows for the real-time analysis and control of people flows: airports use it to assess and reduce waiting times at security checks or check-in; retailers can plan and deploy their staff to ensure that customers always feel well-attended; and train operators can precisely determine the number of passengers, bicycles, strollers, and wheelchairs to optimize their fleet.

All from a single source
With hardware, software, service, training, and maintenance, Xovis offers a comprehensive service package. The majority of the 140 employees work at their headquarters in Zollikofen/BE, where the data from all 300,000 sensors deployed worldwide converge, all exclusively produced in Switzerland. There is a branch in Boston, and another is planned in Berlin.

To penetrate new markets, we specifically focus on large-scale projects with airports or collaborations with partners in sectors such as retail, smart buildings, or transport as entry points. These serve as a reference to unlock the local market in other areas and to establish another growth driver through the partner business.

Great Growth Potential
As one of the leading providers, Xovis focused on expanding in the retail, transportation, and building management sectors during the crisis caused by COVID-19 in the airport industry. All four sectors currently show substantial growth potential. Revenue from the airport sector now accounts for less than one-third of the total revenue.

Currently, growth is around 20 percent with over 30 million Swiss francs in revenue, with a plan to double this in the next two to three years. Approximately 95 percent of revenue is generated abroad, with an increasingly larger portion coming from recurring revenue. CFO Denis Ranke explains: "To enter new markets, we specifically focus on major projects with airports or partnerships in retail, smart buildings, or transportation as entry points. These serve as references to penetrate the local market in other areas and establish another growth engine through partner business." For this, Xovis relies on the support of strong local partners and gladly leverages the expertise of Switzerland Global Enterprise in their selection.

Sustainability and Data Privacy
The company consistently values sustainability with its customer-oriented approach and products distinguished by the highest quality, precision, and durability. By ensuring no personal data is stored or leaves the sensor, it also guarantees comprehensive protection of the captured individuals' privacy.
