Aug 27, 2025

On October 1, 2025, the Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA) between the EFTA States and India enters into force. This marks a new chapter in Swiss-Indian trade relations and introduces new conditions for market access and preferential treatment.

This document provides an overview of the most frequently asked questions regarding TEPA and helps Swiss exporters navigate the new agreement. With the entry into force, India will no longer benefit from GSP preferences, and the agreed preferential regime under TEPA will apply. Exporters will find practical guidance on rules of origin, cumulation, tolerance margins, and customs clearance procedures. The FAQ clarifies key provisions such as the direct transport rule, accepted proofs of origin (EUR.1 or origin declaration), and the requirements for electronic signatures. It also outlines the asymmetric tariff dismantling schedule, allowing gradual liberalization in India, and explains the transitional provisions for goods already in transit. This summary is intended to support exporters in complying with the new requirements and ensuring smooth preferential treatment under TEPA.
