The Texas-based aerospace company Axiom Space is establishing a Swiss subsidiary in Lucerne. With this move, the provider of commercial human spaceflight services is creating an initial European platform for engagement with the European Space Agency (ESA) and research partners.
Axiom Space has announced the establishment of a subsidiary in Lucerne. In its statement, the company describes this location as an initial European platform for the company’s engagement with the European Space Agency (ESA), ESA member states, and the continent’s research and industrial base. From Lucerne, the provider of commercial human spaceflight services plans to focus on advanced microgravity research, in-space manufacturing, orbital data centers and joint development opportunities with European universities and other institutions.
The company, based in Houston, Texas, announced that its Lucerne subsidiary is expected to begin operations in the summer of 2026. “Europe is a founding leader in the creation of the commercial space economy, and Switzerland is uniquely positioned to convene the government agencies, research institutions, and industrial entities that will shape its next decade,” explained Axiom Space CEO and President Jonathan Cirtain. “Axiom Space Switzerland facilitates the scaling of development and deployment of the infrastructure that will succeed the International Space Station.”
The subsidiary in Switzerland is intended to build on Axiom Space’s existing relationships across Europe. Among other things, the company is collaborating with the satellite and space technology firm Thales Alenia Space, which is manufacturing modules for the first commercial space station, Axiom Station, in Turin, northern Italy. In Switzerland, the company is based in Zurich through Thales Alenia Space Switzerland AG.
