Switzerland attracts more foreign investments

Nov 4, 2025

Foreign investment projects have fallen by 5 percent in Europe since 2024. In contrast, Switzerland has attracted 25 percent more investment projects than 2023. This is according to a report from the auditor EY Schweiz.

According to an announcement from the auditing and consultancy company EY Schweiz on the latest edition of its European Attractiveness Survey, the number of foreign investment projects in Switzerland in 2024 was 111, which is 24.7 percent higher than the previous year’s level. This means that Switzerland is doing significantly better than the European average: foreign investment projects across Europe have fallen by 5 percent year on year to 5,383 projects.

France leads the ranking in 2024, as it also did in 2023. However, the number of investment projects decreased year on year by 14 percent to 1,025 projects. The United Kingdom came in second place with a decrease of 13 percent to 853 projects. Germany rounded out the top three despite a fall of 17 percent to 608 projects. Out of the major business locations in Europe, only Spain and Poland exhibited relevant growth.

In the reporting year, Switzerland attracted the most investments from the USA: 27 projects. André Bieri, Markets Leader Switzerland and Liechtenstein at EY commented in the press release: “Switzerland serves, among other things, as a gateway to Europe for US companies, which is why investments from the USA are also very high.” The second most important investor is Germany, with the number of German investment projects in Switzerland decreasing greatly year on year from 24 to 14. Other relevant countries for foreign investments mentioned in the announcement are France (ten projects), Italy (nine projects), the UK (seven projects), and Belgium (four projects).
