Switzerland to host European Political Community summit in Zurich

The 10th summit of the European Political Community will take place in Zurich. The Federal Council, which is the Swiss government, has decided that The Circle conference center will host the event, as detailed in a statement. According to the information, its close proximity to Zurich Airport and modern facilities mean that The Circle “offers particularly favorable conditions” for hosting an international summit of this size.

Carmen Walker Späh, President of the Cantonal Government of Zurich and Head of the Department for Economic Affairs, reiterates this point in another statement issued by the Canton of Zurich: “We have extensive experience in organizing and staging major international events, and with our cantonal police force we additionally boast the ability to safely and professionally host events of this nature in cooperation with the federal government”.

Since October 2022, the European Political Community has been coming together every six months. The informal platform for pan-European dialogue serves as opportunity to hold discussions at the highest level focused on current issues such as security and competitiveness. Switzerland has been taking part in this trust-building format since the first meeting, which was held in Prague back in October 2022.

In its statement, the Federal Council describes the opportunity of hosting this event as a showcase for Switzerland that will serve to bolster its image as a stable, reliable and globally engaged country. As the statement explains further, the European Political Community summit also helps to “raise Switzerland’s international profile and highlight its role as a platform for dialogue and cooperation on issues of common interest. By organizing this summit, Switzerland is helping to strengthen stability, security and prosperity across the European continent”.
